Biography

Caterina Schembri is an Italian-Colombian music composer and orchestrator currently based in Dublin.

She started her formal music studies at Crescendo Arte Academy of Arts (2008-2017); in that same period of time, she studied literature and languages, becoming a proficient speaker of Spanish, English, Italian and French. From the years 2011 to 2016 she studied her major in music composition at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, acquiring a strong formation in composition, music theory and history. In the year of 2016, she studied a diploma course on sound and music for films at Universidad la Sabana. After being awarded a COLFUTURO scholarship, Caterina recently completed an MA in Scoring for Film and Visual Media at Pulse College (in partnership with DIT) where she worked in a high-quality recording environment with a number top-class musicians, mastering her skills as a visual media composer. Some of her lecturers for the program included Dr. Garrett Sholdice, Conrad Pope, Andy Hill, Christopher Young, Dr. Ciarán Crilly, and Dr. Linda Buckley.

Caterina´s career as a composer has been successful in the concert and visual media fields. Her works have been performed in different venues in the city of Bogotá, including the National Museum. Caterina worked as a composer for several short films and visual media projects from Colombian, Costa Rican, Spanish and Chinese directors; she also participated in various filmmaking marathons. Her credits include the original score for the feature film “Despertar” (2017) by Costa Rican director Soley Bernal.
