SEA SALT & TURPENTINE
Sea Salt & Turpentine is the debut album from composer Caterina Schembri. It encompasses a collection of chamber and vocal works written in the span of the last two years and featuring original text written by the composer. Ficino Ensemble and Irish vocalist Michelle O’Rourke, perform in rotating subsets of the ensemble giving way to a multicoloured palette. The music is an intimate portrait of the inner landscapes of the composer, dotted with rich naturalistic imagery, obnubilated symbols and literary allusions translated into music. Crafted harmonies over fluid streams and organic structures breathe introspectively, aiming to magnify nuance and detail. Each of the pieces works as an independent entity but in conjunction, they are threaded into the architecture of the whole, contained in a singular continuous space.

Sea Salt & Turpentine releases on Ergodos on November 14th, 2024 with a launch concert in the National Concert Hall of Dublin.
